Sony BRAVIA Internet Video Link

The Sony BRAVIA Internet Video Link is an optional module will allow new BRAVIA Sony televisions to access video content available through Sony's Internet video service.

Yes, that's right. First, you will need a Sony BRAVIA television and second, you will be limited to Sony's content offering. If you're still reading, here are the rest of the details.

Owners of Sony Internet video-ready HDTVs, available in 2007, will be able to view high quality user-generated content from the Web via a small optional module easily attached and concealed behind the TV.

The BRAVIA Internet Video Link will initially be supported by Sony's BRAVIA S-series flat-panel LCD high-definition television line. The new TV models include the KDL-46S3000, KDL-40S3000, KDL- 32S3000 and KDL-26S3000 units -- all shipping spring 2007.

Sony will have content available from Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony BMG Music, Grouper (higher resolution video than found on the website), Yahoo! and AOL.

The module links the television set directly to a user's broadband Internet service provider via an Ethernet connection. It does not support wireless. Sony Internet video content can then be accessed directly on the TV without use of a personal computer.

However, on a plus side, Sony did write, "Content, which includes Internet video, music videos, movie trailers, user generated videos and RSS feeds without any additional charges." Whether that includes content from Sony Pictures Entertainment, is an open question.

Product availability and pricing for the new BRAVIA Internet Video Link is expected to be announced within the next few months.
